The Ed and Martha Wright Medium Shank Hackamore measures 7” from the top of the shank, straight down to the bottom of the shank. 
Hackamores should hang low on the bridge of the nose just above the soft part of the nostril to be most effective. Curb chains should be adjusted properly and about 2 fingers should be able to slide between it and your horse. If its too loose or too tight it effects how the hackamore is working on your horse making it obsolete.
